The Colorado skiing season makes up an important part of the Colorado economy. Tourism is the second largest industry in the state, and the ski industry makes up a huge portion of that tourism business.

Tourism In Colorado

Last year more than 12.5 million skiers and snowboarders visited Colorado. That’s 21% of all skier visits in the United States. The prospects of employment in the tourism business look good well into the future, with the Colorado skiing season providing a healthy boost to the economy.

The tourism business divides the Colorado skiing season into two portions: the First Period, from October 13 through December 31, and the Second Period, from January 1 until the end of the season. This year, 3,285,649 skiers and snowboarders visited Colorado ski resorts during the first season. That’s a 6.74 increase over last season’s First Period, which was itself a record breaker. These increases occurred despite extreme conditions that delayed flights and closed airports in Colorado.

Colorado is blessed with numerous ski resorts to accommodate the entire Colorado skiing season. The Gem resorts include Arapahoe Basin, Echo Mountain, Eldora, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, SolVista Basin, and Sunlight. For three years in a row, First Period tourist counts in the Colorado Gem locales have been ahead of their five-year average.

Colorado’s destination resorts add glamour and excitement to the Colorado skiing season. Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Crested Butte, Durango, Howelsen Hill, Silverton Mountain, Snowmass, Wolf Creek, Telluride, and Steamboat, are among the destination ski resorts that saw an increase of 11.9% in tourism.

One of the things that makes the Colorado skiing season so great is the special promotions that the resorts run. Crested Butte Mountain Resort, for example, offers free skiing and snowboarding from November 25 through December 15. For ten years, Keystone has sponsored an annual 10K snowshoe race, where participants walk, jog or run in the moonlight above the timberline.

The Colorado skiing season also attracts world-class ski events, like the Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix at Breckenridge and the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Men’s/Women’s Super G and Giant Slalom competition at Winter Park. Winter Park also hosts the United States Disabled Ski Team, where the world’s best disabled skiers compete with able-bodied ski teams in giant slalom and super G events.

The Colorado skiing season is so special because of Colorado’s unique geography, filled with mountains. These mountains form a spectacular backdrop for every ski run. It is no wonder the Colorado skiing season is so popular worldwide.

From Colorado Springs, world-class skiing is just a short drive away. Folks who live in Colorado know that Colorado skiing is so special because of the breathtaking backdrop of mountains at every resort. It goes without saying that all these resorts are beautiful, but each one has its own unique personality.

Arapahoe Basin

Arapahoe Basin is just an hour and 20 minutes from Colorado Springs, a great skiing day trip for residents of the Springs. Arapahoe gets an awesome 31 feet of snow a year, spread out over six lifts and 67 runs. Arapahoe is a small mountain – only 490 acres – but it has a cozy local feel that’s actually quite nice compared to the big resorts like Keystone and Vail.

Loveland

You can get to Loveland from Colorado Springs in less than two hours if traffic is good. Everybody loves Loveland. With its 33-foot deep snow and its 1,365 traversable acres, Loveland offers a lot for being for being just 119 miles away from Colorado Springs. Skiing at Loveland is glorious, and there are 11 lifts to get you out to the 77 runs.

Eldora

It will take you a little over two hours to drive to Eldora from Colorado Springs. Skiing in Eldora, a midsize resort 118 miles out of town, is pleasant and personal. With only 12 ski lifts, you get that feeling by the end of the day that you know everybody on the mountain – and I mean that in a good way. The crowd is mostly local, so most of your fellow skiers are Coloradans who’ve been skiing since they could walk. They know the rules of the mountain, and they follow them. Great snow, beautiful scenery, friendly people, and close enough to the Springs to make it a day trip. Eldora offers some of the best skiing near Colorado Springs.

Vail

World-famous Vail is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Colorado Springs. Skiing at Vail is just something people do when they’re not celebrity-watching or partying. There’s a reason all those celebrities flock to Vail. Vail has a respectable vertical drop of 3,450 feet, an amazing 193 different runs, and some of the deepest snow you’ll find anywhere in Colorado – around 29 feet.

Keystone

Keystone is about a four-hour drive from Colorado Springs, and skiing at Keystone is well worth the drive. With three mountains, five bowls, and A51 Terrain Park, named a top ten snowboarding park two years in a row by Transworld Snowboarding. Keystone’s 229-mile distance makes it an overnight destination, and there’s plenty of lodging available at Keystone. The average snow depth at Keystone is about 19 feet.

If you are interested in taking a trip to Colorado or more specifically skiing with Billy the Kid in Colorado, then you should first learn more about Billy the Kid himself. Most people have heard of Billy the Kid before but are not particularly keen on a subject such as skiing with Billy the Kid in Colorado.

Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid was a famous 19th century American frontier outlaw. He has been depicted famously in a number of different popular movies and television series, and one of the things that he was most well known for was his sugarloaf sombrero hat with a decorative green band that he always wore.

When it comes to the matter of skiing with Billy the Kid in Colorado, the connection between Billy the Kid and Colorado is that Billy the Kid grew up in Colorado. Of course you cannot really go skiing with Billy the Kid in Colorado because he died in the year 1881.

Skiing in Colorado

Although you cannot go skiing with Billy the Kid in Colorado, you can definitely go skiing. Aspen and Boulder are two of the best locations to go skiing in Colorado, as they offer some of the best ski and snowboard hills in the world. Aspen Mountain, which is also known as Ajax, basically sits right on top of the town of Aspen. Here you can enjoy incredible and breathtaking views from the summit of the surrounding White River National Forest.

This resort is truly fabulous and perfect for guests that are lodging in town because it adds great convenience.

Aspen is a little over 200 miles west of Denver Colorado, and there are many wonderful activities here to fill your days, besides skiing. You can enjoy hiking and there is a great nightlife scene here as well. You can even expect to see a handful of celebrities as the city Aspen seems to be the place where many of the rich and famous like to go to spend their free time.

Skiing in Colorado – Planning

Just as you would if you were planning any other trip, it is important to spend some time preparing for this trip. You will need to figure out appropriate accommodations and learn about the best places you can go for dining and activities. Colorado is a beautiful place and definitely one that you should check out if you have not before.

The experience of skiing in Breckinridge Colorado is truly unlike any other. Breckinridge is one of the most renowned cities in Colorado, particularly when it comes to winter sports. This is because the city offers so many breathtaking views and fantastic slopes. Famous skiers and snowboarders from all over the world travel to Breckinridge for these reasons, and you should too.

Breckinridge is considered as being one of Colorado’s most popular resorts and has a number of fantastic mountains, suitable for both novices and advanced skiers. It is not purpose built but rather the city is an original mining town and there is a ton of things you can do both on and off the slopes, thus making it the perfect destination both for couples and families alike.

Skiing in Breckinridge Colorado is of course the most popular option, and children and adults alike can have a great time out on the slopes of the city.

Skiing In Breckinridge Colorado – Other Activities

Besides skiing in Breckinridge Colorado, one of the most popular activities in Breckinridge is dog sledding. You can experience rushing through the snowy woods on a sled pulled by a beautiful and magnificent team of sled dogs. There are also many historical tours and museum visits that you can check out, including Barney Ford.

Also besides skiing in Breckinridge Colorado, skating might catch your fancy. The Maggie Pond at the Village at Breckinridge is one great spot but there are many others, and it is definitely a perfect idea for a romantic evening date. Mine tours are also available, and you can travel over 1,000 feet below ground to check out a century old authentic gold mine.

Whether you want to go skiing in Breckinridge Colorado or enjoy other events and activities, the most important thing is that you enjoy yourself, and the best way to ensure this is by making sure that you plan your trip out to the last detail. Take some time and sit down, even a couple months or more before you plan to actually leave, and set everything out.

You need to figure out your budget so you will know how much money you have to work with, and then go from here. A good idea is to buy a ski package to Breckinridge Colorado, as then you will only have to pay a single amount and will have everything you need for your trip included. This includes airfare, accommodations, time on the slopes, and often food and drinks as well.

Vail, as the largest skiable mountain in the United States, is really the king of Colorado Skiing. Because of its size, Vail resort is the most popular ski resort. Vail Colorado Skiing boasts of 33 lifts, 193 trails, 3450 drop and 5289 skiable acres. Besides this is the backcountry which is accessible from the slopes. Its three sister resorts are well frequented too, like Beaver Creek, Arrowhead and Bachelor Gulch.

Vail Colorado Skiing – Services

Skiers enjoy the very best services also in Vail. There are ski schools and après-ski distractions. There are 1500 instructors at the resort teaching beginners and intermediates. For the last 40 years Vail has been called the skiing king of Colorado, and till today, it has kept its reputation.

Vail Colorado Skiing – Skiing For All

Vail Colorado Skiing is ideal for children too, especially if they are new to skis and snowboards. On the front face of the mountain there are long and easy-going runs and Adventure Ridge will undoubtedly make the children addicted to snow. It is a dream resort for the more advanced with the six long miles of pristine powder on Vail’s Back Bowls, an area of 2700 skiable acres stretching from east to west. You just weave through trees and tap the backcountry of the Rockies to enjoy Vail Colorado Skiing.

Sometimes the Back Bowls are too familiar or crowded. The Blue Sky Basin is the latest expert-level attraction and could give you respite from the overcrowded Back Bowls. You just have to get onto one of the three high-speed lifts to the Basin and merge yourself into 645 acres of remote and rugged terrain. If you are looking for even more extreme-powder purity, you can go off to the thousands of off-piste slopes. These slopes can be accessed by going through the main resort runs, which could include Colorado classics such as Mongolia and Game Creek Bowls.

It is an equally comfortable territory for snowboarders. There is a special map which shows where you can find the best in free-riding and freestyle action. It takes you through terrain parks and now-requisite half-pipes.

Vail Colorado Skiing – Other Activities

But some skiers like to take a break from the piste. They can opt for alternate activities like tubing, thrill-sledding, ski-bike tours, snowmobile tours, snowshoe tours and laser tag. You can also spend your time at the spas or restaurants and just go shopping. On weekends the tourists come to the resort of Vail Colorado Skiing and it is often full. You can also move from Vail to other area resorts like Keystone, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin.

Vail Colorado Skiing is popular not only because Vail is the largest mountain, but also as the finest ski resort in North America. The mountain has its own features and fortes which include four terrain parks, seven bowls, and about 5239 acres of freeride terrain. There is so much space for everybody, that on an average day, there are only two skiers per acre and if it is a busy one, you still find just four. Vail Colorado Skiing is a unique experience if you take an interactive tour of the mountain to really get a feel for the largest ski resort in North America.

Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing is a favorite ski and snowboard area in Colorado because it is the newest, closest and the cheapest of all resorts. It is situated at a height of 10,650 feet and the whole resort is lit up at night for skiing and riding and there is music playing all the time. Skiers of all ability levels are able to get what they want from Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing.

It is located at the base of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and is very close to the city of Denver. It is definitely not a typical ski destination. On the other hand it is better known as an all-terrain park with a rad superpipe, tons of jumps, rails and wonderful music which you can hear all the time.

Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing needs some preparation, especially for the slopes at Echo Mountain. Before going there check the daily snow report. If you are not experienced in skiing, take a lesson before you strive to venture out alone. You can take beginner’s lessons and workshops at Echo Mountain and you will learn skiing in no time.

The beauty and the environment of the area around Echo Mountain have been preserved very well. Throughout the facility there are most up-to-date water saving devices. Tree Cutting is minimum and a lot of money has been spent to control erosion and runoff.

For Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing the new Lunacy Resort will be opening shortly in January. It is actually a snowboard and ski park. It is specially meant for young people, from the age of 12 to 29. It is built on a swath of private land in Evergreen, Colorado.

To promote Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing the park at Echo Mountain will be fully equipped with experienced and friendly staff. They will help you with all your skiing and snowboard activities. Even the experienced skiers will have enough to do and there will be no shortage of equipment and staff to help you with any activity that you want to take up in this ski resort. And you can ride at night too, because the whole park is lit up.

The Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing offers the freestyle aspect of skiing and snowboarding and is especially popular for people living in the metro area. You can come here for a full day after school or work. It is not like one of the classic ski resorts, because there is no stuffy elite attitude, and no fancy log cabins or fake Swiss villages. There is a triple chairlift, the music and all the latest gear can be rented or bought there for your use.

The total Squaw Pass Highway is being developed as a part of the Echo Mountain Colorado Skiing and from the total 240 acres of terrain; about 50 acres are skiable terrain. It is going to be a prime attraction for day goers and youngsters from the metro areas, especially Denver.
