The town of Vail Breckenridge was named after the vice-president of the United States in 1859, John Breckinridge. The name of the founder of the town was General George E. Spencer. He named the town after the Vice-President because he wanted to obtain a post office for the newly established town. The idea was a hit, and a post office was established.
