Here are some general travel tips to help you when planning your next vacation ...
Travel tips can be very helpful in planning your next vacation, but if the travel tips are too general, you may be misguided and be under prepared or under funded. For example, if one person were heading to Peru and the other to New York City, they would need very different travel tips.
If you are flying from within the United States to New York, here are some New York travel tips you may find helpful. For a domestic trip to New York you won't need a passport or any type of shots or immunizations. Although you may want to get some traveler's checks for a vacation to New York, they are not required since there is an abundance of ATM machines that accept most major credit and debit cards, and since the dollar is used all across the United States, there is no need to be bothered with pesky conversions. However, common New York travel tips are concerned with safe and moderately priced transportation to and within New York City. Many people elect to fly to one of New York's several airports. Depending on how far you plan in advance and what you want to do in New York, you may be able to fly into an airport in the vicinity of a hotel that allows you to be close to many of the activities that interest you in New York.
However, if you are feeling more adventurous and decide to go to a country like Peru, you will want to gather numerous Peru travel tips so that you know what to expect once you get on the ground. For example, there are a number of unofficial taxi companies that operate in Peru, but are not licensed or allowed in the downtown areas in many major cities. Official taxis are painted as such, while the unofficial taxis usually just have a taxi sticker on their windshield. Many guides recommend avoiding the unlicensed taxis. Also, in Peru taxi refers to bicycles, motor rickshaws, and motorbikes for hire, as well as cars. Another Peru travel tip you should be aware of is that there is no meter or set rate for taxi rides. Each taxi ride must be negotiated with the driver before departing. You can also bargain and negotiate the prices of items at Peruvian markets as well.
A few other Peru travel tips the adventurous vacationer should be aware of the extreme altitude in certain parts of Peru, as well as the toiletry situation. It is not uncommon for tourists inexperienced with high altitudes to faint, causing potentially serious health problems. Guides recommend staying around 3000 meters above sea level for about a week to get used to the changes that come with high altitudes. After a week at 3000 meters, you should be able to handle 4500 meters, but you are still likely to feel the effects of being at such a high altitude. There is one drink made from the cocoa plant called cocoa tea that can help with adjusting to higher altitudes.
Another issue to prepare for is the toiletry situation. Because of the plumbing in many areas, paper products cannot be flushed and must be placed in wastebaskets beside the toilet. It is also preferable to bring your own toilet paper since most of the toilet paper provided will likely be one-ply.
Although you can have a great time in either New York City or Peru, each destination is vastly different and each has benefits and disadvantages. Although New York is much more refined, it is more expensive as a result. Because of the unique qualities of each destination, it is necessary to get as many specific travel tips as possible.
