Remember To Plan For Bad Weather On Your Beach Vacation

There are more things to do than swim and suntan on a beach vacation, but you will have to find the right beach to find alternative activities. Even if you plan to just sit on the beach all day and most of the evening, relaxing in the sun, there will likely be times when the weather may not cooperate. Winds, rain and the occasional storm can put the damper on a beach vacation unless you plan for that possibility.

During bad weather, sitting in a rental home or motel room reading may not be that exciting. Check out other possibilities before heading to the beach vacation resort to see what other attractions that are available before settling on one spot. Being able to have optional activities can provide additional incentives for those who really do not want to spend the entire vacation time with sand in their pockets.

Plenty To Do Next To The Water

When heading out on a beach vacation you will probably want to plan for activities to stave off boredom, especially if children are also on the trip. Sand toys and surf boards can help everyone have fun on a beach vacation, and the parents can relax on the beach while the kids play, under close adult supervision. Teach them hoe to comb the beach for hidden treasures such as unusual seashells and teach them about some of the native life. There is something fascinating to children about sand crabs and clams.

A pick up game of waffle ball, using a plastic bat of course, can have children of all ages running through the sand and having fun. If sitting on the beach watching the waves roll up onto the shore is too sedate for you, walk up the shoreline searching for signs of life. Often times on a beach vacation you can find what they call lighting rocks, which is the result of a lightning strike on the sand. They often are found in some of the oddest shapes and make great paperweights back home.

Plan For Overexposure To The Sun

No matter how careful you are in your choice of suntan lotion, make sure you have plenty of it and take it to the beach with you. A fun beach vacation can be ruined if you spend the day on a sunny beach and the lotion is sitting in your room. Use it daily, even if not in the water, as the sun bouncing off the waves can be pretty relentless.
